Israel-UAE Diplomatic Deal Isn’t 'Historic' As It’s Shown

If you think Israel-UAE deal is going to bring us any closer to peace in Middle East region, think again.

The 'Abraham Deal' announced on 14th August is an unambiguous win for all the three parties involved. More so for the USA & Israel.

The Israeli-Arab relations are no longer as hostile as they were 4 decades ago. Sharing common enemy - Iran, their armies or intelligence agencies have swapped intelligence before. This deal was just a way to bring in  the open & legitimize this two-decades-old relationship.
Let's look at how this deal is going to bring benefits for all the parties involved.

The POTUS desperately needs a foreign policy victory. He is facing denunciation for not handling the Covid pandemic well, voters are waning interest in him & this deal allows him to say that he is the first president to usher in a peace agreement between Israel and an Arab state since 1994.

Israel PM Netanyahu is facing corruption charges back home, and this deal has made him historically important, having established diplomatic ties with 3rd Arab country, Egypt & Jordan being the first two.

The agreement enables the UAE to develop commercial, diplomatic and security ties with Israel. It could also give the UAE access to previously off-limits U.S. weaponry, such as advanced drones, just as Egypt was able to secure better American arms after its peace deal with Israel.

Though Israel has agreed to halt its annexation of West Bank, it not has been abandoned. It would be the next US administration who would have to deal with it.

Now it is to be seen whether more Arab & Muslim countries follow the UAE's lead & normalize their relations with Israel.
